Women's Project

The VWP is a three-year project designed to address the specific needs of women who are suffering from the effects of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), including torture, rape, FGM and domestic violence. The aim of the project is to identify vulnerable asylum-seeker, failed asylum-seeker and migrant women without documents who have experienced violence, and to provide them with a sensitive, caring environment in which to access emotional support, advocacy and referrals onto specialist immigration and therapeutic help. Essential to the work is the building of trust and self-empowerment, and a progression route through from client to mentor / LRN volunteer is encouraged.

The project offers:

  • One-to-one confidential assessments and appointments (French/ Portuguese spoken, interpreters available for other languages).
  • A monthly women-only support group with invited speakers on issues relating to health and wellbeing.
  • Accompanied appointments with specialist immigration/ health/ welfare advisors.
  • Referrals to specialist agencies working with trauma such as the Medical Foundation and the Helen Bamber Foundation.
