Education Project

Lewisham Refugee Network’s Education Project provides practical assistance to asylum seekers and refugees - to help families and their children access mainstream educational provision. We work with schools, colleges and training providers so that our clients access the compulsory education, post sixteen education and adult education.

Your child's education is one of the most important influences on their future development and life chances. But what happens when things go wrong? Few people are aware of their legal rights concerning their children's education. It is important to obtain quick and prompt advice as soon as issues arise which could affect your child's educational welfare.

LRN’s Education project offers advice to parents and children worried about the following:

  • What choice of school do I have for my child?
  • What can I do if my child is being bullied?
  • What happens if my child doesn't have a school?
  • How can I get help for my child if they have special needs?
  • Where can I complain if I am not happy about my child's school or education?
  • What can I do if my child is excluded?
  • Where can I get help if I found out my child truants?

If you or someone you know would like help in:

  • Finding school place for your child or attending the admission interview
  • Arrange meetings with your child's teachers
  • Writing letters and filling forms
  • Explaining the school system
  • Visiting your school
  • Help if your child is bullied at school
  • Represent you if your child is excluded
  • Find you suitable English and vocational courses
  • Or sorting out problems at school or College
