Refugee Week Planning
Organisations and individuals all over the world
have been celebrating Refugee Week for years. Every year, a theme is set
for the celebration with almost always the same aim; to promote the image
of refugees and to bridge integration in the society.
This year Refugee Week will be celebrated from 20th – 26th June. This year
also marks the 60th anniversary of the Refugee Convention and to mark
the occasion, the theme for this year is the contribution refugees have
made in the UK society.
In Lewisham, we are marking the event by organising a day, 21st June
2011, where the general public, refugees and organisations supporting
refugees come together and celebrate the contributions of refugees in
Lewisham.
LRMN is co-ordinating the preparation on behalf of the Lewisham Refugee
Forum. LRMN facilitates the Lewisham Refugee Forum, which aims to develop
a strong forum of refugee community organisations in Lewisham working
together to represent the interest of refugees and asylum seekers,
advance their issues, campaign on their behalf, promote their positive
image, highlight their contribution, and liaise with other similar
organisations in Lewisham and the neighbouring boroughs.
Some of the organisations involved in the Forum include:
LEWCAS – Lewisham Churches for Asylum
Seekers
AFRIL – Action for Refugees in Lewisham
